HONORABLE MENTION IN AN OPEN COMPETITION

Our proposal for a nursery home in one of the east-fjords of Iceland received an honorable mention.

VILLA G

Last week we did our first inspection of the final details of Villa G. The villa is almost completed, the entrepreneur now finalizing the last bits here and there that will fulfill the transition from building site to living space. In a few weeks all we can do is enjoy the summer and wait for the grass to grow. Here are a few pictures of the exterior.

PRESS RELEASE: SKJERN CULTURAL CENTER

Skjern Cultural Center (SKC) and KRADS presents future plans for developing SKC's cultural and sport facilities. The project includes a fitness center, accommodation facilities and a new cinema all gathered by an outdoor plaza and linked to the city centre by an activity promenade.

FISHMARKET BY THE OLD HARBOUR

Until today, june the 5th, there hasn´t been any "open-air" fishmarket for the public in Iceland - believe it or not.. We have for the past few months been involved in the development to change that situation and this morning the "Fiskmarkaður við Gömlu Höfnina" - a market by the old harbour in Reykjavík - opened to clear skies and curious passers-by.

Last year the idea for the market was put in motion by Brynhildur Pálsdóttir, Theresa Himmer and Þóra Valsdóttir from Matís. We joined the group in the devolopment of the design and layout of the market, together with Faxaflóahafnir and graphic designers Vinnustofa Atla Harðarsonar, and it has been a great pleasure to see this much needed addition to the harbour-front become a reality.

KRADSWERK // LECTURE

Krads gives a lecture at Reykjavík Art Mueseum on thursday night at 20:00.
Kristján & Kristján will go through recent projects, amongst others the Vertical Villas in Herning & the "Out of the Box" Lego-workshop.
Admission is free and all are welcome.

PLAYTIME

16 students of architecture, 2 weeks, 65 kilos of Lego

Play is important - especially when you are dead serious about what you're doing. "PLAYTIME" is a workshop created by KRADS Architecture in collaboration with Lego Concept Lab. For the past 2 weeks first year students at the architectural department at Iceland´s Academy of the Arts have participated in the workshop - working on various projects using only the elementary Lego bricks as the medium for their ideas. An exhibition showing the work of the students opens today at Hugmyndahúsið, Grandagarði 2, at 16:00.
The show will be open until the 20th of may.

THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF ICELAND GETS A NEW ENTRANCE

A collaboration between architect/artist Theresa Himmer and Kristján Eggertsson, of KRADS, resulted in a new entrance to Icelands National Gallery. The new entrance welcomes animals of all shapes and sizes, arriving by air or by land, to visit the gallery.

The new entrance is a part of the group exhibition "Dyndilyndi" - at the National Gallery until the 2nd of may.

2.ND PRIZE IN THE COMPETITION FOR A NEW HIGH SCHOOL IN MOSFELLSBÆR, ICELAND

We have just received a 2.nd prize for our proposal in the competition for a new High School in the town Mosfellsbær in Iceland. The competition was open and 39 proposals of high quality were competing for the winning position. More information about the project will be published here on our site shortly.

MODULAR BENCHMARK

The city of Athens is throwing an international design contest - looking for a new bench to brighten up it´s urban environment. More than 500 proposals have been admitted and can be viewed on the AthensBenchmark website. You can also rate the different proposals pushing the ones you like forward in the competition. Our favorite is of course our very own "Modular Benchmark". If you agree with us feel free to take on the challenging task to figure out how to do the actual voting.... it is not easy and definitely not for the quickly diverted. The voting stops on april the 14th.

SUMMERHOUSE BUILDING SITE

The work on the summerhouse on Langitangi in Iceland is going very well. Here are a couple of shots from the building site taken this weekend.

REYKJAVÍK DESIGNMARCH 2010

Our architectural models are taking a march down the main shopping street in central Reykjavík during this year´s DesignMarch. So while you are contemplating wether to take the Oreo´s or the more helthy Wasa crackers - you can check out our design for the "Flying drive-thru" restaurant...

VILLA G - MOVING IN!

The Graugaard family moved in to Villa G this weekend. The house is not completely done yet, but the inside is getting close, mainly lacking final finish. Work on the exterior of the house has been delayed due the harsh weather conditions.... So looking forward to warmer temperatures and sunny days. Here are a few quick snapshots of the interior.

EUROPAN 10 / THE BONE

Here are some images from our proposal in this years Europan competition - in which we took on the challenging site in Madrid, Spain. The whole project will be displayed some time this year in a special "competition issue" in our KRADS WEBMAG .

COOL.... VILLA G

While things are freezing and covered in snow on the outside, things are heating up inside Villa G. The inside space is turning out really nice, ceilings and walls are getting primed and painted and the fireplace and bathrooms are being build "as we speak". These pictures are just a few out of a bunch of very snowy pictures.... more to come in the following weeks.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010

As we at KRADS ARCHITECTURE jump up & down in our newly finished shopping centre project in Iceland we wish everyone a happy new year and look forward to an exciting year of 2010.

"HUSPÅHUS" PROJECT FINALLY GONE PUBLIC

Finally we can show this housing project situated on a great site in Herning, DK. Today Herning Folkeblad published pictures of the project on the front page of their newspaper and wrote a fine article about the 3600 m2 building. The 9 story towers include 18 exclusive apartments - each with two 28 m2 terrasses and great views to the beutiful landscape towards south and over the city towards north. We have been developing the project during this year with C.C. Contractor and have now reached a stage where it´s time to show it to the public.

LEGO CHALLENGE AT THE OFFICE

Can we push the boundaries on how to play with LEGO -

We will try. How complex and beautiful geometries can we make from these basic LEGO bricks, all in white.
