FRESH NEW KRADS SPACE
This weekend we moved the KRADS office in Denmark to our new location i Mejlgade. Due to the fabulous sunny weather, there was a lot of sweat but luckily no tears involved in the move. We got an early start sunday morning and with a lot of help from our friends and family we finished the move at two o' clock. We spent the rest of the day claiming the space.
The new KRADS office is a fantastic space accommodating concentrated workflows, intense workshopping, playfull experiments and a sparkeling game of ping pong. The new address is:

KAUPTÚN - RETAIL PARK
A couple of shots from the building site at Kauptún Retail Park. The excavation work is just completed, foundations are being casted and the first shipment of steel is arriving from China next month.
Within a year we should be able to replace the rendering above with a picture of the real thing...
VILLA G IN PROGESS
VILLA GRAUGAARD has gone through the final stages of sketching. We are now working on drawings for the authorities and preparing to do the tender documents and details. The project is developed within a restrictive planning document. Simple operations to the iconic brick volume makes a house featuring a courtyard, panoramic view of the landscape and a framed view of the City of Randers. The house features a large family room, kitchen, and a library for play and study all organized around the courtyard providing the necessary daylight and a diverse space for everyday life.
KRADS ARCHITECTURE PREQUALIFIED
Yet another exciting collaboration! KRADS ARCHITECTURE has been invited together with SLA A/S, SLETH MODERNISM and Oluf Jørgensen A/S to participate in the competition for "Måløv Aksen" in Ballerup, Denmark. The competition is an interesting challenge combining urban planning and studies of volume and building.
After being invited to participate in a number of competitions in Island during 2007, we are excited to recieve our first prequalification for a competiton in Denmark.

REYKJAVIK SITES - MARCH
I have finally got around to posting the site pictures. Things have progressed a little since this visit in March, and the weather has got slightly better - I even heard that the prime indicator of icelandic summer, the Golden Plover, has been spotted. As can be seen, it was a beautiful day when we started out which degenerated into a freezing blizzard, rather hampering the photographing of later projects. A update of progress will appear soon.

DIPLOMA EXHIBITION OPENING
After much running around on Saturday morning the student exhibition at Kjarvalstaðir opened without a hitch. Here are a couple of photo's from the opening - more can be found at the new KRADS flickr page.

KRADS IS CURATING THE DIPLOMA EXHIBITION FOR THE ICELANDIC ART ACADEMY - DESIGN DEPARTMENT
We are curating the exhibition for the design department diploma projects from the Icelandic art academy 2008. The design department includes four dept.: Graphic Design, Product Design, Fashion Design and Architecture. The Exhibition takes place at Reykjavík Art Museum, Kjarvalsstaðir where both the Design department and the Visual Art department celebrate there diploma students. The exhibition starts next saturday at 14:00 and will stay open for public for 2 weeks. Everything is getting crasy at the museum at the moment, all the students are working hard. For us it has been a pleasure working with the students, the school and the museum. We are looking forward to the opening and will post some more pictures of the result next week, but for now we show you the work in progress.

Prefab double-house rising
In this project, a house for 2 families in the suburbs of Reykjavík, the main challenge was working with the prefabricated concrete elements which the house is constructed of. Using prefab-elements is a rapidly growing building method in Iceland, and often the preferred design approach is to camouflage the building method - making an effort to hide the inevitable juncture of the elements. In this project the opposite point of departure is taken - the juncture is emphasized and used as a decorative element in the facades. The irregular shapes of the elements, together with the chosen fenestration, create a Mondrian like pattern in the fair-faced concrete facades.
The house is designed in collaboration with architect Theresa Himmer.

Art-School Carnival
Some nice stuff from the Art-Academy's "carnival" in January. I was tutoring there for a 3 week period in January - in a workshop on the topic of Carnival. We are looking forward to participating more with the students at the academy as we will be curating the diploma exhibition at Kjarlvalsstaðir in April - together with artist Finnur Arnar.
